My love and fascination with Dolls Houses stems from many hours spent during my childhood with my Triang Dolls House. I was never sure about the green floors, and the only carpets I had were acquired from when our house was carpeted and always, even to my then child's eye, looked a little strange as they were so thick. Did they make carpets for dolls houses in those days? Maybe they did and perhaps I was steered away from that part of the shop as my pocket money budget would not extend to such luxuries.

There were only two lights, powered by an enormous battery, a PP9 if I recall correctly, apparently an expensive thing to replace, so 'lights on' in the dolls house was an occasional treat. I longed for more lights, but I don't think the PP9 could cope with any more, so the kitchen, bathroom and lounge were always in darkness Eventually, probably from lack of use, the battery leaked, and being such a big affair, made quite a mess in the loft space and of course after that, the lights didn't work at all.

There were no internal doors, only squared holes and no hallway either, but there was a plastic white staircase and I did have a garage with a garden above it.

The tabs which held the windows in place and allowed them to open, all broke off and couldn't be replaced apparently, so the windows had to be sellotaped permanently shut.

I have fond memories of Dolls House shopping, saved pocket money clutched in hand, seeking out furniture and accessories pitched at pocket money prices.

It's still in the loft, my dolls house, never to be thrown away, and  I have fond memories of endless hours of childhood imagination, collecting and escapism. Recently, I had a thought of retrieving it from the loft, dusting it down and embarking on a renovation project. I could have more lights, thinner carpets, wallpaper, all those things wished for as a child could now become reality! But there would still be no hallway and it's not the popular 1:12 scale of today, the furniture looks much loved and consequently rather tatty, and I was still not sure about that red plastic roof.

I think, fearing a failed restoration project and to put an end to the deliberation, my husband bought me a new Doll's House for my birthday, Morcott, and the pure escapism returned, a throwback from childhood I guess, but now with an adult eye. Was this just a fascination for 'all things miniature' or the only way of creating my absolute dream home? The first thing I did, was to go out and buy some lights. How lovely to potter, a wealth of miniature furniture and dolls house accessories to be had on-line from all over the world. Wall lights, table lamps, spotlights, ceiling lights, and I could put them anywhere I wanted with no more leaking over sized batteries, and a full wiring system, even working sockets. How times change, I even found a couple of doll's house shops not too far away from home and spent hours wandering around in awe.

So I set about, building decorating, furnishing and accessorising, totally addictive. I loved the health warning I read on one of the Ebay Sellers' listings "warning dolls houses can be addictive and very costly", how true, but what price escapism?

It's still not finished, and in my mind it never will be, as the best bit of it all, in my opinion, is turning the doll's house into a home and seeking out the little accessories, knick-knacks and ornaments to complete the look and feel. I made some perfume and ornament bottles, for my doll's house bathroom and bedroom which took a lot of practice and time spent sourcing the best materials to use, but I got there in the end, and when Christmas was approaching, I turned my attention to making little Christmas decorations for my doll's house and miniature Christmas tree.

After I had filled every shelf and surface in the doll's house bathroom with little bottles and put little bottles of perfume all over the bedroom dressing table at Morcott and adorned the rest of the house with ornaments, until there really was no room for anymore, I still wanted to make more and they proved very popular when listed on Ebay and at DollsHouseTrinkets on Etsy.

So now here in my shop from little perfume bottles and miniature Christmas tree baubles, the range slowly grew to include Christmas miniatures, doll's house mirrors, tiny candles and many more Dolls House miniatures and accessories.  I love to take inspiration from the world around me and try recreating in miniature, so new items and ranges are always being introduced, all handmade with as much care and attention to detail as possible, there is no mass production line here.

I hope you enjoy browsing my Etsy shop as much as I enjoy designing and making the miniatures helping to turn little houses into homes.

Dolls house accessories and miniatures are also for sale at DollsHouseTrinkets on Etsy.
